Back and joint pain:

For the Osteopath the causes of back pains are due to disturbances in the mechanical function of the spine and/or the pelvis. These disturbances are often due to previous trauma, repetitive injuries, poor posture, inappropriate training, sedentary life style, laxity of ligaments, long distance driving, prolonged sitting, pregnancy and delivery, or ageing. The treatment will depend upon the cause but generally, the Osteopath will improve your spinal mechanics to restore appropriate mobility, avoid more wear and tear, reduce stiffness and will deal with the cause of imbalance. The same principles will be applied for any other joints.

Sports injuries:

What DO We Treat?

Sport injury is almost inevitable part of sport at any level. It may take the form of an acute ligament tear or be as mild as post-exercise soreness. Either way, the majority of sport injuries could be prevented or alleviated by appropriate conditioning and the manual skills of a qualified therapist. Our Osteopaths here are highly skilled at reading the body so any imbalances contributing to the typical sports injuries encountered are best suited to Osteopathic treatment. By linking the training and the injury together a more detailed assessment can be obtained. By removing the obstacles that impede the blood and nerve supply to the site of injury the mechanism of repair can proceed..

Correction of the biomechanics of non-symptomatic area reduces the stress and strain that may hinder a complete recovery after return to sport. The use of rehabilitation is as well an essential feature in the treatment of sports injuries and can take the form of strapping, prescription of stretching and core strengthening exercises, according to the nature of the problem. Part of the management may include relaxation, anti-inflammatory drugs, and the motivation to regain full fitness. (Click on the Sports Injury Link)

What Do We treat?

Many problems that children suffer from (colic, difficulty to sleep, lack of concentration, hyperactivity...) relate to difficult deliveries, and can be helped by gently releasing the tension in the child's body with cranial osteopathy. Children can as well suffer from growing pains that can be helped once again by removing the inappropriate body tensions. Despite the lack of so-called clinic based evidence many babies and children have been successfully treated with osteopathy.

Osteopathic Treatment

More conditions can be helped by osteopathy, such as frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, wear and tear and osteoarthritis, constipation, Irritable bowel syndrome, stress, fatigue and ME. Again there is not much hard clinical research to back up many claims made by osteopaths; however, by the very nature of how osteopaths work such clinical research would never support such claims. It should be remembered that the medical profession using a reductionist approach to health will never fully support osteopathy.
